Site Related : Another Server Outage!
Posted by Bogdan on 2008/3/11 15:36:57 (0 reads)

So, yet again there was a server outage today, what do you expect from a $200 server running on Best Buy quality routing equipment and a residential DSL line. As soon as I fulfill my dream of renting a house with a 50 megabit fiber hookup it will be all better, till them, let me know when ever there is a problem.

BTW, as in the past the outage is due to IP renew on the DSL line. Sorry for the interruption.

General News : The Way to Play Chess

This was taken on February 22nd. It was raining outside, no one else showed up to the meeting, so we decided to play chess in style, with classical music and all.

Site Related : Site Outage
Posted by Bogdan on 2008/1/7 22:00:00 (0 reads)

Some one pointed out that the site was out, and surprise, surprise, it was. Among all the confusion of the beginning semester I completely forgot to check the server after a short DSL outage in my neighborhood. Everything is back to normal, and everything works just fine. For those of you more computer inclined and curious as to the reason for the interruption, the servers IP address jumped after the outage causing issues with DNS request resolutions.

To the right pictured is the server in question along side my industrial paper scanner and absurdly old CRT monitor.

I apologize for the service interruption.

Congratulations on finishing your finals, and let's us put in a good word with Santa Claus for any first-year chess clubbers who have grades coming back in January. No chess club meetings except by appointment... we'll start off the first Friday after Jan. 3!!

Also, start perusing the vastness of the internet and your imaginations for a chess club logo/heraldry. We need some patches.

And a red blazer.

BEER AND CHESS?

"When you see a good move, look for a better one."

-- Emanuel Lasker

While holding our weekly meeting up in Roy Bell is definitely a good move, holding it at a bar every once in a while is a better one. Thus, tomorrow, we'll have our first ever off-site beer-drenched convocation of the CWSL Chess Club, at Club Kadan, which is located at 4696 30th St. near the Normal Heights neighborhood. I know the title indicates that it's a "club," which suggests a lot of things which don't include chess, but by the looks and rumors of things it's a nice place where you can play chess and enjoy some Czech beer or absinthe or whatever.

We'll meet in Roy Bell around four and then carpool from there. Hopefully we'll have enough cars; if not, be prepared to sit in the lap of a large eastern European male (the bulk of our membership thus far).

See you tomorrow,

Riley

CWSL Chess Club. Be There!

Thanks for your interest in what must be the first chess club at our little law school!

If you didn't catch Cavan's email, we'll be meeting every Friday at 4 in the Roy Bell Reading Room. Hopefully that comports with your schedule -- it does for most folks -- but if not please email us, as we're open to different or additional meeting times. Of course, if you miss a meeting and just can't stand not playing chess, you can always click on "Play Chess" right here on our website. Vladimir Kramnik himself is standing by to play, 24 hours a day. Sweet!

That's about all. See you Friday -- bring your friends!

Riley
